There was a Comment about Delta's relationship with Boeing going back 60 some odd years, back to the purchase of their first DC-3, which was a Douglas Aircraft product, not Boeing. Granted McDonnell bought Douglas to form McDonnell Douglas, which was then bought by Boeing, but the DC-3 is still not a Boeing product.

Did the employees get returns for the revenue created ?

My dad was a DL capt at that time. He took us kids and mom to the pictured ceremony. Very touching.Delta looks after its employees. Happy to have been part of Delta family.

I was lucky enough to help build and Functional Test this bird at Paine Field in Everett, WA, back in the late 80's.

We. Delta employees bought this B767 for Delta. We all got a small piece of the red ribbon that was around the fuselage of the aircraft. A very proud day for all of us at Delta. Ship#102. "The spirit of Delta" !

No insult to the 767, but I think it would have been better to save a Delta L-1011 Tristar. That plane was a legendary step in the history of aviation.

Too bad that so few people even know what this airplane is, or anything about it nowadays. The engine, alone, that was used on these planes was a unique achievement in technological evolution.

I was a member of the Delta Air Lines family in 1957. I remember the CV-440, DC-6, DC-7 days. I also remember the day when the first DC-8 arrived at the Detroit Wayne County airport. The CV-880 arrived the next year, 1960.

I haven't been there because i live in Chile......but would definitely visit it some day. Hope to be able to see a L 1011 on the Delta livery, one of the nicest ever.

seems Carole Lombard died in such an airplane. All 22 people on board - including her mother, and three crew members - died in the crash. The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) investigated the accident and determined it was caused by a navigation error by the captain.

That 747-400 was a Northwest Airlines A/C Northwest was the launch customer not Delta nothing good came out of that merger except screwing Northwest employees.

These were really cool airplanes. Very safe and reliable.

My father was the Captain on the first inaugural Delta 767 flight. He called and tried to be a part of the project in any way. He even volunteered to give tours, say hi as the tour flew around the country. He was turned down . Not even a mention of his name after 35 years of service, 2 inaugural flights and he even was part of the Huff Daland restoration....no mention of his name. Also, there is a day employees cannot tour the museum...it ISN’T POSTED but they will deny your families entry even after they burned a pass to just go to the museum on a day outing.... I do support the museum and so does my father and we did make pledges. Just wish they appreciated employees a bit more...

I visited the Delta Museum back in November of 2017. It's an excellent museum. I plan on visiting again in the future.

Fantastic! I'd say restore the aircraft to her former glory, but leave the patina of the lounge as it is now. It was kept that way all those years, so it is full of her past! And patina can only be earned the hard way, through hard work....

My Grandmother worked for Delta from 1960-1986. I've got the original poster from that ceremony, and a piece of that red ribbon. She gave it to me a few years ago. Cool history.
